    Brahms Requiem 7th December 2025

The Brahms Requiem is a magnificent  work, possibly inspired by the death of his mother in February 1865. The final 7 movements were first premiered in Leipzig in on 18 th Feb 1869. And Alyth Coral Society was privileged to sing the Requiem accompanied by two pianists, a tenor and soprano. The sound was just wonderful and everyone left the hall feeling up lifted.. Feedback from our audience has been so rewarding - thank you to everyone who came to share in this very special event.

    Comments:
Nina Bennet Soloist 'Thank YOU! I'm so impressed by your leadership and the results of all your hard work. The choir was bloody brilliant X
Paul's Putnins Solist:: Thank you Alison. You always create the best atmosphere for both the rehearsals and performances. And the choir sounds better and better every time!

Audience Member: I am really glad I came along tonight. What a wonderful job you have done with the choir. And such interesting programming. I loved hearing the lieder.
Chorister son Ben 'the most professional he has heard us', 'so good to be able to hear the choir, orchestras usually drown us'.

Thank you everyone for your supportive comments - upwards and onwards!

On 17th November ACS was present at an evening interfaith event in St Albans Abbey with over 100 representatives of many different faith groups from Hertfordshire,
Bedfordshire and a few from Barnet.
Our photo shows ACS Chair Sarah Ledermann (left) and Musical Director Alison Smart Fisher) with the display board created by Sarah and Gill Epstein.
This event was a great opportunity to let people know of the interfaith dialogue at Alyth Synagogue and also at St Mary-at-Finchley where Alison is Director of Music.
There were plentiful opportunities to meet people and make new friends, and we all discussed what our most important values are/should be:   Honesty, Humility, Compassion

Approaching the Brahm's Requiem Concert and ACS activities
The Autimn Term seems to have flown past as we moved from a relatively period to the recent cold snap.

Rehearsals for the Brahms Requiem on Sunday 7th December are progressing well and we should be a large choir of 40 participants accompanying our two pianists. Do book tickets - this should be a wonderful performance!

For the first time, ACS sent two representatives to the St Albans Cathedral Interfaith event on 17th November - our C hair and Music Directly ably chatted with those attending.

Comments from Alison, our Music Director:
